The ENERGY CENTER (Chakra) Meditation

In this meditation, Travis guides you through the 7 energy centers, or chakras.

Each energy center is a vortex of information and is connected to various organs, emotions, elements, colors, affirmations and mantras.

Using conscious attention, visualization, reflection and chanting, this meditation will activate and awaken each center in a balanced steady way.

Hi, this is Travis Eliot and welcome to “The Energy Center” meditation.

In the yogic sciences, energy centers are known as chakras. Chakra means wheel. Through this meditation, we will make sure these energy centers are pure, awakened, activated, and balanced.

Go ahead and find a comfortable seated position. Sit up tall, upright but not uptight. Sitting with nobility like a great warrior, but at the same time relaxed and at ease.

Close the eyes, bring your attention and focus inside, allowing all the events of your day to fade away.

Then we’ll take a nice big inhale through the nose, filling the lungs up with the life force of your breath and then out the mouth, exhale. Let it all go.

Good. Two more like that.

Take another deep inhale through the nose and out the mouth, exhale, letting go any tension, any accumulated stress.

Beautiful. One more time.

Last big inhale through the nose and out the mouth, exhale. Just let it all go as you allow your breath to just find its own natural, effortless rhythm.

From here, bring your attention all the way down to your tailbone, to the first energy center, the Muladhara connected to the color red, the element of Earth. When this energy center is balanced, we feel grounded, stable, safe, and secure. When it’s out of balance, we feel unsteady. And we feel like we’re in a constant state of worry. We’re living in survival mode and stress.

As you continue to maintain your awareness in the tailbone, in this Muladhara, the affirmation for this energy center is, “I am grounded and steady. I am grounded and steady.” So on your own, just repeat that affirmation either silently or out loud.

[silence]

Good. And then nice and easily just allow the repetition of that affirmation to fade away.

And then Bija, the seed sound mantra for the Muladhara energy center, is lam, L-A-M. I invite you to either chant this mantra out loud or feel free to just focus on this vibration, still in that first energy center, the Muladhara.

We’ll chant it three times.

Lam.

Lam.

Lam.

Feel this energy center spinning like a wheel in a balanced, steady way.

[silence]

And now we’ll bring our attention to the second energy center about three to four inches beneath the navel. The second energy center is Swadhisthana. You can also access this energy center through the low back, the sacrum, right in towards the spine. The second energy center is connected to creativity, spontaneity, and change. It’s correlated with the element of water. And the color is orange. When this energy center is balanced, we’re able to go with the flow instead of fighting the flow. When it’s out of balance, we might feel stuck. We might resist change. We often have issues with sexuality or intimacy with others, healthy relationships.

As you hold your awareness at the second energy center, the affirmation is, “I am creative and fluid. I am creative and fluid.” On your own, continue to repeat.

[silence]

And nice and easily just allow the repetition to go.

And then we’ll chant the Bija mantra vam, V-A-M.

Vam.

Vam.

Vam.

Feel the second energy center spinning in a balanced, steady way.

[silence]

And now we’ll move the attention all the way up towards the navel, in the region of the solar plexus, to the third energy center, Manipura. Manipura is connected to the element of fire. When this energy center is balanced, we have strong self-esteem, healthy confidence, and willpower. When it’s out of balance, we’re often feel insecure, trapped and confined within our own ego, and a prisoner to our own fear. The color is yellow. Visualizing that color yellow we’ll repeat the affirmation, “I am strong and empowered. I am strong and empowered.” On your own, continue to repeat.

[silence]

And allow the repetition to go as we now chant the mantra ram. R-A-M, ram.

Ram.

Ram.

Ram.

Feel that third energy center now spinning in a balanced, steady way, purified, activated.

[silence]

And now bring your inner focus all the way up to the center of your chest, to the fourth energy center known as Anahata. Anahata is connected anatomically to the heart and the lungs and, therefore, the element of air. When Anahata’s balanced, we naturally feel the benevolent qualities of the heart: compassion, generosity, unconditional love. We’re emotionally healthy. And when it’s out of balance, we feel disconnected from the heart, often leaving us feeling depressed, jaded, selfish. This energy center is correlated to the color green. Continuing to keep that unbroken attention right there at the middle of your chest, begin to repeat the affirmation, “I am kind and compassionate. I am kind and compassionate.” On your own, continue to repeat.

[silence]

Beautiful. And gently allow the affirmation to go, but feel your heart open, expanded, and spacious as we now chant the mantra yam. Y-A-M, yam.

Yam.

Yam.

Yam.

And now feeling that fourth energy center spinning in a balanced, steady way, activated, awakened.

[silence]

Continuing this energy center journey, we will now bring the attention all the way up to the area of the throat, this fifth energy center known as Vishuddha. Anatomically, this is connected to the thyroid, the vocal cords, the mouth, correlated to the elements of space, of ether. When this energy center is balanced, we’re able to clearly communicate what we feel within our gut and also what we know within our hearts. When it’s out of balance, we often have vocal or speech issues. We resort to negative gossip and speech. The color for Vishuddha is blue. Holding your attention in the area of the throat and visualizing a beautiful bluish color, begin to repeat the affirmation, “I use my speech to uplift others. I use my speech to uplift others.” On your own, continue to repeat.

[silence]

And nice and easily let the repetition go. And now we’ll chant the mantra hum. H-U-M, hum.

Hum.

Hum.

Hum.

And feeling Vishuddha spinning in a balanced, steady way, activated, and awakened.

[silence]

Now we will send the attention all the way up to the center of the forehead to the sixth energy center, Ajna. This energy center is connected to the prefrontal cortex of the brain and also the five senses. It’s also connected to the element of space and ether. When this is balanced, the mind naturally feels calm and serene. We’re connected to our own intuition, inner guidance, inner wisdom, inner teacher. But when it’s out of balance, we feel disconnected from our inner world. We’re dominated by the outer or the external world, the material world. And the mind is often restless and agitated. The color for this energy center is violet or purple. See if you can visualize a luminous purple color right there at the center of your forehead as you repeat the affirmation, “I am connected to unlimited wisdom. I am connected to unlimited wisdom.” On your own, continue to Repeat.

[silence]

And nice and easily just allow that repetition to go as we repeat and chant the mantra aum. A-U-M, aum.

Aum.

Aum.

Aum.

And feel the sixth energy center spinning now in a balanced, steady way, pure, awakened, activated.

[silence]

Beautiful. Now we’ll shift our attention all the way to the last and the seventh energy center located at the crown of the head, known as the Sahasrara. This particular energy center is transcendent of all elements, of all color, and is ultimately the bridge that connects us from the small self to the big self. So when this energy center is blocked, we’re stuck within this world or form of what’s finite. But as this energy center opens up, we’re able to make a paradigm shift from time into the timeless, from the finite into the infinite, from the world of form into the unlimited dimension of what’s formless, eternal, and unlimited vastness and space, bliss. The affirmation for the seventh energy center is, “I am unlimited vastness and space. I am unlimited vastness and space.” On your own, continue to repeat.

[silence]

And allow that repetition to go. As you continue to feel unlimited and spacious, now repeating a second affirmation, “I am one with the universe. I am one with the universe. I am one with the universe.” Continue to repeat.

[silence]

Beautiful. Just allow that repetition to go. Take several moments now to just allow yourself to surrender, to dissolve into this power of stillness, quietness, spaciousness.

[silence]

Feel the seventh energy center open and spinning in a balanced, steady way, activated, and awakened.

[silence]

For the last phase of this energy center meditation, we will finish by chanting all of the mantras, lam, vam, ram, yam, hum, aum, followed by a moment of silence. We’ll repeat this for a couple of minutes. If this is new for you and you’re still learning these sounds, these mantras, feel free to just listen and enjoy. When you’re ready, you can jump in and chant these out loud.

Lam, vam, ram, yam, hum, aum. (Repeat for a few minutes)

Now feel all seven energy centers, Muladhara, Swadhisthana, Manipura, Anahata, Vishuddha, Ajna, Sahasrara, spinning in a balanced, steady way, pure, activated, and awakened.

[silence]

Beautiful.

Now if you like, you can recline back and allow yourself to take Savasana, final resting position, for as long as you like.

But officially, we’re going to say that this energy center meditation is complete. Make sure you transition in a way that honors and respects the depths of what you just dropped into. Give yourself permission to take as much time as you need to to make that transition into the rest of your day. Thank you so much for your practice. And look forward to connecting very, very soon.

Much health, much wealth, and much love.
