How “The Complete Practice” Came To Be

“Holistic” has always meant “complete” to me. Philosophically speaking holistic is defined as being, “characterized by comprehension of the parts of something as intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole.” And medicinally speaking holistic means, “characterized by the treatment of the whole person, taking into account mental and social factors, rather than just the symptoms of a disease.” So if I’m honest, teaching 20, 30 or even 45 minute classes has always left me feeling somehow, incomplete with so much ground to cover.

Now don’t get me wrong. I’m still a fairly new mom with a very young and vibrantly energetic toddler, a business owner and co-CEO with a company to run and a human being with all of the usual life tasks to attend to so, on a personal level, I LOVE the shorter practices. In fact, they are my daily go-to.

But after years of delivering shorter content online and longer content in-person, the pandemic hit and those longer classes all but disappeared. Studios shuttered, literally. Retreat centers went dark. The world went silent.

I became a mother and my life as I knew it was forever altered. For a time, it was beautiful. Even healing. And then, it wasn’t. It kept going. And going. And my heart was literally aching for an experience that was once a daily occurrence in my life for over a decade – luxuriously complete holistic yoga flow classes. The ones that felt like capturing magic in a bottle.

I believe a lot can be done in a short period of time. I believe we’ve demonstrated that at IDM TV again and again. I also believe all of us, as students of yoga, are capable of dedicating more to our practice if we get clear on our commitments. I believe there is no replacing sustained daily practice.

Your time is the most valuable resource on the planet. It is the only non-renewable resource in your life. There is a reason people like Oprah and Jeff Bezos pay big bucks to have their time literally protected – because they recognize the value of this rare and precious asset. The only thing they can’t pay any sum of money to obtain more of. There is a reason social media gets paid by the amount of your attention it steals each day.

I don’t take your time lightly.

I don’t take your life lightly.

And I know, you don’t either.

So I created “The Complete Practice: The Program” to meet a need that was both spoken and unspoken in our community. To return us to the felt-sense of what it was like to be together in-person, day-in and day-out. This program, each one of the thematic classes that make up this 30-day journey, is a lived experience of what it is like to be in a yoga studio together, to be on retreat with each other.

Years ago, I released a class on IDM TV called “The Complete Practice” – 45 perfectly balanced minutes of power, yin and restorative yoga. It has always ranked as one of the top classes I’ve created. Scrolling the comments, reviewing text and social media messages, I heard the resounding agreement that this class provided a safe haven that people were craving. I began to wonder, “what would it be like to have an entire program based on this same premise?” and “what kind of healing would be possible from such a commitment?”

I believe you can have your cake and eat it too. You can have your sweaty, strengthening power yoga flow AND you can have the equally nourishing and life-enhancing benefits of yin and restorative yoga, breath work and meditation without needing to do multiple classes – IF you’re willing to make the commitment. IF you’re willing to acknowledge that you are worthy and deserving of both.

I created this program to give you a complete package with a single click. I created this program because I needed it as much as you. I tell stories, interweave yoga philosophy, relay clinical research, communicate thematic intentions and there is silence. This program was designed to challenge you. And, it was designed to heal you. You will be challenged by the time I’m asking you to commit each day. You will be challenged by the stillness. And while I will not make any promises, I will tell you this: if you commit to this journey for 30 consecutive days, you will be forever changed by what you discover within yourself.

As I say in the introduction to the program, I am not asking you to change anything about yourself as you commit to this journey – not your diet, not your habits, not a single thing. There is no leaderboard in this program except the one inside yourself. I only ask that you show up daily, open-eyed and present. I cannot wait to hear how these 30 days transform you – not at the level of your body, but at the level of your soul.
